Sunriver Pétanque ClubThe Sunriver Pétanque Club formed in April 2019. A handful of players gathered at the Fort Rock Park baseball diamond between first and second base. The base path surface was very suitable for pétanque, but as summer baseball got into full swing, it became difficult to find time to play.
In June, a paving project was taking place at Mary McCallum Park. As luck would have it, SROA agreed, while they were at it, to grade, place gravel, and compact an area suitable for three pétanque courts. Thus, Sunriver added a new amenity and the Sunriver Petanque Club was borne. The new courts had room for 12 (doubles) to 18 (triples) players to play at the same time. Since then, the area has expanded to five courts for 20 to 30 Sunriver homeowners and their guests. The club roster has expanded from a group of less than 10 in 2019 to about 35 players in 2023. We have also become one of seven clubs in the northwest formally recognized by the Federation of Petanque USA. As a member of FPUSA, Sunriver club members can enter official FPUSA tournaments in North America, Europe, and Asia. Contact Sunriver Pétanque Club |
