2016 Women's World Championship Qualification Tournament
PARTICIPATION, REQUIREMENTS, FORMAT, AWARDS, RULES, AND REGULATIONS FOR 2016
PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS: QUALIFIER

This event will determine the Official U.S. National Team for the 2017 F.I.P.J.P. Women’s World Championship.*
1. All participants must have been an FPUSA member since June 13th AND must not have been a member of any other Federation since 2012. Members who did not join or renew by June 13th are not eligible.
2. Only players who turn 18 years or older during 2016 are eligible to play in this tournament.
3. Each team must include at least two U.S. citizens by birth or naturalization. One member may be a non-citizen provided that she has provided to FPUSA proof of residency in the United States prior to the tournament.
4. Pre-Registration with full payment is required for this event by the closing date noted on the entry form.
5. Every non-citizen participant must submit a copy of her official residency documentation prior to, or with, the submission of the team’s entry form.
6. All players must sign the entry form verifying US Citizenship or Residency before the tournament begins. No exceptions.
7. In the event any contestant falsifies the Pre-Registration Form, she will be disqualified and will be suspended from participation in any FPUSA Title Tournament for a period of three years.
8. Every Participant must bring her Federation Card and can be asked to produce it before or during play.
9. Winners have the honor and obligation to represent the U.S.A. at the 2017 Women’s World
Championship.* (See FPUSA Bylaws Article VIII B.)
10. Teams who are eliminated on Saturday will be entered into a Select Triples Tournament on Sunday the 11th of September at no extra charge. Teams may opt out of the Select Triples with no penalty, so long as they notify the Organizer prior to Sunday registration.
11. The Select Triples will be open to Women’s Qualifier participants as well as any licensed FPUSA members.
* Details to be announced when available. The winning team will receive the standard FPUSA travel stipend as well as a share of the purse.
COMPETITION FORMAT FOR 9 TEAMS OR MORE
For 9-16 entries, EIGHT teams will advance to TWO pools of FOUR. After the pools, the four winning teams will be entered into the semifinals.
For 17 or more entries, SIXTEEN teams will advance to FOUR pools of FOUR. After the pools, the eight winning teams will be entered into the quarterfinals.
Pools will be seeded according to team rankings after Saturday’s results as follows:
For TWO pools of FOUR teams each: Pool A: Seed 1 vs. 8, 4 vs. 5; Pool B: 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6
For FOUR pools of FOUR teams:
Pool A: Seed 1 vs. 16, 8 vs. 9; Pool B: 2 vs. 15, 7 vs. 10;
Pool C: 3 vs. 14, 6 vs. 11; Pool D: 4 vs. 13, 5 vs. 12
Placement in the elimination rounds will proceed as follows:
2Win/0Loss teams in each pool will face the 2Win/1Loss teams in the first round.

2-0 Team from Pool A faces 2-1 Team from Pool B; 2-0 Team from Pool B faces 2-1 Team from Pool A

Games begin at 8:30 am. All games to 13 points. Lunch break and game start times and will be posted.
Courts will be assigned for all games.

4 TEAMS: Qualify 2 teams for a 2-out-of-3 Final
Saturday:
- first 4 games of double “round robin” (play in two-game “sets” to minimize waiting between games)
Sunday:
- finish last two “round robin” games
- 2-out-of-3 final match
5 TEAMS: Qualify 4 teams for double elimination playoff
Saturday:
- single “round robin” (4 games in 5 rounds)
Sunday:
- double elimination (see explanation on page 4)
6 TEAMS: Qualify 4 teams for double elimination playoff
Saturday:
- single “round robin” (5 games in 5 rounds)
Sunday:
- double elimination (see explanation on page 4)
7 TEAMS: Qualify 4 teams for double elimination playoff

SUNDAY DOUBLE ELIMINATION FORMAT
(used only when 5–8 teams played on Saturday)
Rank Teams 1 thru 4 from Saturday’s results. Rounds 1–3 follow a typical seeded pool format.
Round 1: Team ranked #1 plays Team ranked #4. Team ranked #2 plays Team ranked #3
Round 2: Winners of Round 1 play each other. Losers of Round 1 play each other
- One team is eliminated (with a 0W-2L record).
Round 3: 1W-1L Teams play each other. 2W-0L Team has a BYE
- Another team is eliminated (with a 1W-2L record)
Round 4: 2W-1L Team plays 2W-0L Team
- If 2W-0L Team wins Round 4, it wins the tournament.
- If 2W-1L Team wins Round 4, both teams go to Round 5
Round 5 (if necessary): Teams play each other again
- Winner of Round 5 wins the tournament
RULES, REGULATIONS & AWARDS
In addition to the official FIPJP rules, the FPUSA Code of Behavior and applicable rules from the FPUSA Single Day Tournament Guidelines, the following regulations will be applied by the Tournament Organizers, Umpire Staff and Officials:
1. There will be no cash prizes All proceeds from the players entry fees are to be held by FPUSA for use by the US Team and Delegation.
2. Three Gold, three Silver and six Bronze medals will be awarded. A witnessed coin toss will determine the “third place” team, that is, the team that would become the official United States team if first and second place teams can not meet the Team USA obligations (travel and otherwise).
3. The Tournament Director may impose time limits to games, or a reduction in the “one minute rule” to either 30 or 45 seconds, if he/she judges it to be necessary to complete the day’s games. (See FPUSA 1-Day Tournament Guidelines.)_2011_fpusa_onedaytournamentguidelines.pdf
5. Carrying a damp or wet rag by players during games will not be permitted. (See Article 15 in the official rules.) Article 34 will cover the penalties necessary to enforce this rule.
6. Only team captains may call for a measurement by the umpire, and only after both teams have measured. If the DIFFERENCE between the competing boules’ distance to the jack is greater than four millimeters, the team that has lost the point will get a warning. Subsequent penalties as described in Article 34 can be imposed if similar incidences occur in the game or in future games over the course of the weekend. The Tournament Director can suspend this rule for any game in progress, if an umpire is available, if it is determined that an umpire can be called more frequently for a measurement in order to expedite play. 7. Plastic playing circles will be required throughout the tournament. Circles must be marked so that, if they are inadvertently moved, they can be accurately replaced.
8. Team shirts of the same color will be required of all players for the both days of the tournament.
9. Closed-toed shoes are required of all players, except in the cases of those with a valid medical reason.
10. Additional rules and announcements will be given to the teams, as needed, by the Tournament Director. It is the responsibility of every player to know the rules and schedule of the tournament.
