Pétanque in the News and Media

INTERNATIONALLY PETANQUE IS PLAYED by hundreds of thousands, if not millions of players. From its origins in La Ciotât in southern France, pétanque has been carried across Europe and throughout the world. Here in the United States, the game is relatively young and still growing, its profile in the press is most richly developed at the local level where it often figures in regional tv, radio, and newspaper pieces.
The appearance of pétanque in print runs the gamut from the late Charles Schulz's Peanuts to scholarly articles in the Journal of New York Folklore. Hans Silvester and Yvan Aduouard have waxed lyrical, and Peter Mayle comical on the topic. Also here are links to the FPUSA's own publications. Boules parties and competitions were among the earliest subjects of the Lumière brothers, La Ciotât having the double distinction of being the birthplace of film as well as pétanque. |
