May 11 - A hazy morning. The day of the pre-WC mixed triples tournament in Copenhagen, hosted by the local Copenhagen Petanque Club (KpK). Enghave Park, where the tournament is held, is within walking distance of the hotel. Just as the first game started, the sky opened up and it hardly let up. I was told it had not rain in Copenhagen for the last 3 weeks. Bad luck. Most of the players competing at the WC dropped out, fearing the chill and getting sick. All that was left were the local players and 3 teams from Team Cambodia. They won. And it didn’t seem to affect their game in the WC. SOME OF YOU might be curious as to the difference between petanque federations and confederations. The FPUSA as a federation, belongs to the FIPJP, the international federation, but we also belong to the Pan America Confederation, which is comprised of federations from the Americas. Every federation that belongs to the FIPJP also belongs to a confederation.
The PanAm Confederation is one of the smallest, with only 5 member federations, and according to Mike Pegg, President of the European Confederation, the European is "the largest Confederation with 40 member federations." |
