Bekah, a member of the Port Townsend Petanque Alliance in Washington State, took home a silver at the precision shooting competition. She was competing against seven formidable players from Belgium, Canada, Cambodia, Denmark, France, Germany, and Thailand. First qualifying round The first round of the competition saw Phantipha Wongchuvej (Thailand) scoring 47 and Katrine Junge (Denmark) 32 points, automatically qualifying to the semifinals with the top two scores. May 11 - A hazy morning. The day of the pre-WC mixed triples tournament in Copenhagen, hosted by the local Copenhagen Petanque Club (KpK). Enghave Park, where the tournament is held, is within walking distance of the hotel. Just as the first game started, the sky opened up and it hardly let up. I was told it had not rain in Copenhagen for the last 3 weeks. Bad luck. Most of the players competing at the WC dropped out, fearing the chill and getting sick. All that was left were the local players and 3 teams from Team Cambodia. They won. And it didn’t seem to affect their game in the WC. |
